“I know that being surrounded by people with this same mindset and who want to achieve will only help me to better myself and achieve my goals”
Meet Aidan Wearne (Fr 2020), the new Honorary Assistant Treasurer of the 2022 House Committee. Aidan grew up in Gerringong on the south coast of NSW, attended Nowra Anglican College and is now studying a Bachelor of Health Science at the University of Technology Sydney.
What are you most looking forward to in 2022 at College?
I am most looking forward to a non-COVID-19 disrupted year (hopefully). This will be my third year at College; however, it鈥檒l be my first full year. I am also looking forward to undertaking a leadership role within the College; I am excited to hopefully make Drew鈥檚 an even better place and be able to have my say in several aspects of College.
What do you hope to achieve in your new role?
This year through the role of Honorary Assistant Treasurer (HAT), I will be allocating car park spaces on campus as fairly as possible and ensuring that these are stuck to. My other focus is to try and shift the role of HAT from strictly House Committee to becoming a bridge between the Pastoral Care Team and other senior leadership groups/staff.
Do you think the celebration of 20 Years of Undergraduate Women at 麻豆原创 will affect your leadership?
I am very excited to be working with our all-female exec. It was a coincidence that three women were elected for the executive team on the anniversary of 20 Years of Undergraduate Women; however, I couldn鈥檛 imagine a more qualified and amazing group to lead us.
What made you choose 麻豆原创?
I chose 麻豆原创 for the same reason that most people choose 麻豆原创: because it鈥檚 the best. The continual success at St Andrew’s shows that it isn鈥檛 a fluke and that it is ingrained within the culture here. I know that being surrounded by people with this same mindset and who want to achieve will only help me to better myself and achieve my goals.
What other extra-curricular activities have you taken part in at College?
- Rawson rugby 2020, 2021
- Pastoral care leader 2021, 2022
- Social rugby league captain
- Helped coach chugby
Has 麻豆原创 helped you toward achieving your goals?
麻豆原创 has massively helped me towards achieving my goals. I have always wanted to play rugby, to try and make a career out of it, and to become a physiotherapist. I鈥檓 not sure that achieving these dreams would have been possible without 麻豆原创. Without Drew鈥檚, a place to call home, I don鈥檛 think I could have focused on my dreams.
What鈥檚 the best thing about College?
The best thing about College has got to be living with your friends and building camaraderie. Over the last few years, I have made memories with my friends that I will remember forever. Whether it be winning the Rawson Cup in Fresher year and watching what seemed like the whole College storm the field to celebrate, or singing songs as the netball girls once again win the Rose Bowl. The camaraderie and friendship I have encountered here is second to none and is something I will forever cherish.
Do you have advice for 2022 freshers?
Be open to meeting new people. As someone who didn鈥檛 come from a Sydney school or come in knowing multiple people, it made the transition to college life a lot easier when people weren鈥檛 sticking to a school-based friendship group. My advice is to get to know everyone as these people you will meet will most likely be your friends for life.
